Dry needling is commonly utilized to reduce pain and restore function by releasing myofascial trigger points.

Dry needling uses a fine filament needle, one without medication or injection, which is inserted through the skin and into areas of the muscle to reduce trigger points. It can be used in conjunction with other manual therapies and exercise prescription. A trigger point is a taut band of skeletal muscle within a muscle group. They can be tender to touch and even cause pain into other areas of the body.  Dry needling is performed by physical therapists who have received additional postgraduate training and are registered with the Saskatchewan College of Physical Therapists.
